AXA to insure itself against risks to reputation
What are the world's most despised professions? Most people would probably say politics, journalism, banking and the legal profession - not necessarily in that order. But Henri de Castries, the AXA chief executive, believes his own insurance business probably also ranks pretty high on this popular black list. So much so that he has decided to launch a major crusade to try to revive what he readily admits is the dismal image of the insurance industry.

Companies want to break with their image of "thieving insurers"
Promises are fine, but let's have some proof. This is the line AXA now wants to hold with respect to its customers. "We do business in an industry where the service is only provided after the customer has paid the premium, as opposed to other industries", explains Henri de Castries, chairman of the AXA management board. It's true that relations are uneasy in this business where a customer pays for a service that he may never benefit from, if he's lucky, certainly in the case of Property and Casualty insurance. The number one European insurer has therefore decided to "break away from the poor image that the financial services industry has".
